Ozone is a colourless gas with a characteristic smell. It is transformed from oxygen due to ultra-violet radiation at a higher atmosphere in nature.
Characteristics:
Rapidly disintegrates to dioxide and oxygen atoms that react with other molecules easily. It is a very strong oxidizer. It kills bacteria, dissolves acid, consequently acidic effect and also the dissolving of mineral substances are discontinued on the surface of teeth.
Course of treatment:
Accurate diagnosis can only be obtained using Diagnodent (laser detector for caries) that shows whether a given area is affected by caries or the tooth is only discoloured.
This is followed by a thorough cleansing of the surface of the teeth.
This is done by a specific instrument that bombards teeth with a fine-grained substance, thus removing plaque and discolouration, as well. In case it is necessary to open the cavity, cleansing is done by a similar instrument, only size and substance of the granules differ. Thereupon it is able to remove tooth tissue that has become very thin.
Both treatments are completely painless.
Ozone therapy itself follows the above mentioned processes. It means that a “cap” is placed on the tooth, so that it will be closed hermetically, and then ozone is given to the tooth for 60 seconds.
Supplementary treatment:
The patient is given a specific tooth paste for home usage, which removes protein film from teeth. He is also provided with a mouthwash containing mineral substances that infiltrate teeth under adequate circumstances, therefore caries is stopped and a hard surface rich in minerals is created on tooth.
Finishing treatment:
Treatment is repeated within a month, and finally the area is closed with a fluid filling material in order to avoid recurrence of caries.
Supervision:
All patients are advised to attend treatments regularly and also supervisions once every six months. The condition of the teeth, fillings and other existing reconstructions are checked during supervision. Calculus will be removed and teeth will be polished.
